Star of Hope: On 24 April, the Wilderness
Society is lighting this beacon of hope for the Styx Forest in
Tasmania, Australia - the tallest hardwood forest on the planet. A
giant 4 meter diameter solar powered star, dubbed the 'Star of Hope',
is programmed to light up for five minutes every night from the 24th
onwards. The star is perched atop the world's tallest Christmas Tree:
an 80 meter tall old-growth Eucalyptus regnans which is threatened
with imminent logging.

These magnificent trees are some of the
tallest in the world. The Wilderness Society in Tasmania, Australia,
is campaigning to save them from being logged for
woodchips.

This huge old-growth Eucalyptus regnans
was cut from within the Styx Valley Wilderness, one of the tallest
forests in the world.
For Burningwindrowstyx@400.jpg:
The magnificent trees in the Styx Valley Wilderness, Tasmania,
Australia, are being logged, firebombed by helicopters, and laid with
1080 poison to kill marsupials grazing upon plantation seedlings. The
ecosystem is destroyed by such practices. Ninety percent of the
destroyed forest goes via export woodchipping to the papermills of
Japan. The rainforest understorey is destroyed. The Wilderness
Society is fighting to save these beautiful trees from this
fate.
