Duan Changqun, Director of Action for Green (AFG),talked to public at Century Square in Kunming on April 22, 2000. AFG is a non-profit, non-government organization based in Kunming, Yunnan Province of China, which is dedicated to raising public environmental protection awareness through formal and informal education. AFG is the coordinator of Earth Day 2000 China in Kunming.
This event was sponsored by AFG in cooperation with the Kunming Department Store Group Co. Ltd.. About 200 college students, citizen and member of AFG took part in the ceremony for environmental campaign of the Earth Day. They came together to sing songs of environmental protection, to persuade citizens not to use plastic bags, and to encourage the public to adopt sustainably lifestyles by saving paper, water, gas and et al. About 5000 "Green Life Commitment Cards" were delivered to the public, and among them 1400 were signed at the event by citizens and collected by our volunteers.
The event lasted a whole day. An estimated 10,000 people were involved, and over 10 mass media publicized this event.
