A brief report - from Sydney to Seattle ! (ref. by Chris Barry)
FOOTF Inc. stepped up their ongoing campaign to Protect the Echidna (Olympic Mascot) and Bushland habitats at Old Toongabbie in
Sydney, on Earth Day 2000. The Earth Day Listing for Phone In Objections to the likely Developers was coupled with taking the Echidna
habitat message to the streets in Parramatta with a Stall in the Mall.
The Parramatta community has been opposing the Grand United Retirement Village 'expansion' proposal and its 'bushland selloff' for
suburban housing for 7 years. We NOW have Parramatta Councillor's strong support with moves toward rezoning and buying this natural
and cultural heritage back for the people - of Australia. The Friends of Old Toongabbie Forest have always proposed ecologically more
sustainable development options that do not require or effect the destruction of rare Urban Bushland, particularly in this historic
precinct.
