EARTH DAY 2000 - SYDNEY
Highlights of Sydney Earth Day events beginning today include:
- Sydney, Australia: Australia’s first ever golf tournament for an environmental
cause kicks off at Wakehurst Golf Course in Sydney. Celebrity
participants include Peter Garrett, who will caddy for Midnight Oil's
Manager, Gary Morris, Skunkhour, and several Olympic level
sportspeople. They are all coming together to help raise funds for
the buy-back and return to the public ownership of the Manly
catchment and the stunning bush land (listed as a National Heritage
site) at the headwaters of Manly Dam. Tee-off is at 11am and
presentation of the magnificent trophy will be at 5.15pm. National
ABC radio personality Jaslyn Hall will compere into the evening, and
an auction will follow a 5 course dinner.
- Sydney, Australia: On 15 April 2000 in Sydney,
StaionEarth will be an all
ages, interactive Earth Day event involving computers, CD rom
screenings related to environmental issues, and a diverse range of
musical entertainment and performances, ranging from American Indian
drumming to global protest DJs such as ‘Oms not Bombs'. There will
also be environmental information tables set up by environmental
groups such as Friends of the Earth, The Wilderness Society, and
Jabiluka Action Group (JAG).
